Invitation To Death By Gas Industry Truck?

Along the Pine Creek Rail Trail at the south end of the Waterville Recreational Parking area are two signs (the first yellow, the second white-and-green) inviting bicyclists to a “shared” experience of Route 44 just ahead. What insanity is this? Does somebody at DCNR or PennDot have a sick sense of humor?

Nowadays, with the two-lane road being an industrial highway overrun by Marcellus shale gas industry trucks (note the two “Minuteman” water trucks in the photograph roaring south on Route 44), to attempt to “share” the road with them would be nothing less than courting suicide.

The yellow sign reads, “Bicycle PA Route G Follow PA 44 As A Shared Bicycle Motor Vehicle Route 100 Feet Ahead.” The white-and-green sign repeats (as even more encouragement to engage in a death-defying act?), “South Bicycle PA G Route.”

I suggest a third RED sign be placed after these two, with the words, “Good luck, daredevil! Are your last will and testament in order?”
