WXPI 88.5 Williamsport Community Radio and Grey Art Gallery are teaming up for the second “A Night of Spoken Word” next Friday, January 13. The event will once again take place from 7-9 p.m. and is open to the general public and anyone interested in reading poetry, prose, freestyle verse and dramatic readings. The Grey Art Gallery is located at 140 West Fourth St., Williamsport in the heart of downtown.

“The first night of spoken word was an amazing success with over 65 people in attendance and a good portion of attendees participating. Hosting it at the Grey Art Gallery is perfect because when I lived in the Bay Area art galleries were filled with people watching poets who poured their heart and souls into it. Their words surrounded by the visual beauty of the place. We are creating that scene here,” says Isaac Conner, Station Manager of WXPI 88.5 Williamsport Community Radio.

“Being able to host an event for WXPI is a great way for us to give to back the community and give WXPI a fundraising venue for the night. Last month brought such a wide variety of talent including rappers, poets, lyricists, and narrators that chose to read from passages that moved them. Based on both the amazing talent and turnout for December’s spoken word event we have decided to make it a recurring monthly event,” says Grey Art Gallery’s Casey Gleghorn.

“A Night of Spoken Word” is open to the public. Those interested in participating should arrive at 6:30 p.m. to sign up so a running order can be established.

WXPI 88.5 went on the air in June of this year. It is the area’s only community radio station and features an eclectic format of music and news.

The Grey Art Gallery has been hosting art openings since July 2011. Their current show is “Here Be Monsters” featuring Liz Parrish. Each month the theme, featured artist, and floor plan transforms to accommodate larger than life paintings, sculpture, prints and more.
