Biography

Lance Van Auken contributes photographs and videos to NorthcentralPA.com. As Vice President of Communications, Little League International, he oversees the operations in several departments at Little League, including media relations, publications, Web site content, and the Peter J. McGovern Little League Museum. He has been interviewed several times on national television (Today Show, The Early Show, CNN, MSNBC, ESPN, ABC News Nightline, etc.) and has been quoted in more than 300 newspapers and magazines worldwide. Van Auken received his journalism training at the U.S. Department of Defense Information School at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind. He served 12 years, first as a military policeman, then as a journalist, in the U.S. Army Reserve. He has served as a volunteer for the United Way, the American Heart Association and the West Branch Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. His wife, Robin, is an instructor at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa., is a professional archaeologist, and author. Together, they co-authored a book titled “Pay Ball! The Story of Little League Baseball,” chronicling the history of Little League Baseball, for Penn State University Press. The book was released in hardcover April 2001, and was released in paperback March 2004 as a companion book to the PBS documentary “Small Ball.”
